FAQ
The questions that keep coming up
Are my original files modified?
No, never. CropPlanner keeps your crops in a small file sitting next to the image: the original is not re-saved, not recompressed, not moved. Stop using the app tomorrow and your files are exactly as you handed them over.
Can I crop on something other than the final file?
Yes — that was one of the starting ideas. Crop on a screenshot, on the PDF brief or on a mock-up PSD: CropPlanner recognises the same image in high resolution and carries your crops straight over, in the right place and at the right size.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, always. The app connects to nothing — not even to check your licence. A shoot in a studio with no wifi runs exactly like a day at the desk.
What is disabled during the trial?
Nothing at all. Thirty days, every feature, no watermark and no file limit. A cropping tool is judged on a real series: you have to be able to use it for real, under your own deadlines.
What happens if I stop paying?
The app still opens and your work stays readable. A late invoice is settled with an email, not with a lock that drops on a Tuesday morning mid-shoot.
How many seats does a licence cover?
One. The price shown is for a single seat: to equip a team you take as many subscriptions as there are seats, each at the same price. A seat can be added mid-year without starting over.
Which files does CropPlanner open?
JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP and HEIC, Photoshop PSD and PSB, and the common RAW formats (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, DNG). Photoshop files are displayed without needing to open Photoshop.
Does it replace Photoshop or Capture One?
No, and that is not the point. CropPlanner does not retouch and does not develop: it decides the crops, gets them signed off and hands them on. The rest of your pipeline stays exactly as it is.
Why does macOS ask me to confirm on launch?
The app is not yet notarised by Apple: the first time you launch a version received by email or link, macOS asks for confirmation in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ “Open Anyway”. Once per version, then never again.
How do updates work?
You replace the app with the new version, like any macOS app. Your settings, your crop lists and your licence are kept, and your work depends on no installed version.
Windows or Linux?
macOS only, from macOS 12, on Apple Silicon Macs. The app relies on macOS-specific machinery to display multi-hundred-megabyte PSB and RAW files instantly — part of what makes it fast on large volumes.
